Around AD 449，when the United Kingdom was ruled by Nordic tribes led by the Angles，their language developed into a new one，that is，English. More than 1000 years later,in 1789,the federal government was established and Washington was elected as the first president of the United States. During the Civil War，Lincoln defeated the southern separatist forces and upheld everyone's birthright “All men are created equal.” And after the FirstWorld War and the Second World War，the commercial trade between America and China has become more and more frequent and developed towards the direction of modernization，which signifies the importance of learning English.
Currently，as Chinese economy is growing rapidly，Chinese enterprises has gained invaluable developing chances，particularly ，the Internet enterprises.
Alibaba, China’s biggest e-commerce group, handles more transactions each year than eBay and Amazon combined. Jack Ma, its chairman, pledges to serve 2bn consumers around the world within 20 years. Tencent, which specialises in online games and social media, is now the world’s tenth most valuable public firm, worth some $275bn. Pony Ma , its chairman, wants China to “preside over the global tech revolution of the future”.And the third member of China’s three internet giants, Baidu,came to dominate the mainland market after Google left the country to avoid censorship.
Several hundred years ago,Napoleon made the extraordinary prophesy: "China is a sleeping lion, and when she awakes, the world will shake." Though Napoleon got a few things wrong, but he got this one absolutely right. Because，today， China has not only just waken up, but also has stood up and China is on the rise, and the question for us all is where China will go and how we seize opportunities offered by this giant of the 21st century?
Currently， as English has become the basic communication tool in international commercial trade between China and American，it is absolutely necessary to read extensively and learn English.
Firstly， those who enjoy reading will know it has an extraordinary power to take you out of your narrow inner space and into someone else's world, so that, for a while at least, you will look at the world from different perspectives. That may be terrible experience, particularly if you're reading something about a culture that may have quite different values from your own. But it can also be really enlightening. Wrestling with unfamiliar ideas can help clarify your own thinking. And it can also reveal your blind spots in the way you observe the world.
Secondly，learning English can help us better understand economic situations 、 future economic trend and understand the era where we live with a keener sense.
And I hope in the next two years that we can be inspired and enlightened by reading and have better self-development by learning English. I will be really glad to see that all of us can fight together and realize our greatest dream!
